Plane makes emergency landing in Spartanburg on John B. White Boulevard

Spartanburg Police and the city fire department responded to the scene where a plane made an emergency landing Sunday on John B. White Boulevard.

The emergency landing took down two powerlines, and 165 power outages were reported around Woodland Heights, according to Duke Energy.

Scott Sharrett, City of Spartanburg Fire Department Battalion Chief, said the make of the plane is a small Piper airplane, which contained four passengers. The aircraft landed safely on John B. White Boulevard and was brought to a nearby mechanic shop. No injuries have been reported.

Maj. Art Littlejohn received the message from his duty supervisor around 5:15 p.m., reporting the incident.

"All of the roads are open, however traffic may be delayed slightly near Kensington and John B. White and also 295 and John B. White," Littlejohn said.

Littlejohn said that the plane was able to steer safely into a nearby parking lot.
