Plane suspected to be stolen crashes in Fannin County, pilot dead

Jan. 25—FANNIN COUNTY — A plane suspected to be stolen from a flight school in Addison crashed Wednesday night, killing the pilot.

The Texas Department of Public Safety's preliminary investigation indicated the aircraft, a Cessna 172, was stolen from ATP Flight School. The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. in an open field nine miles northeast of Telephone, a city in Fannin County.

DPS reported the pilot, Logan Timothy James, 23, of North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other passengers were in the aircraft.

The ongoing investigation has been taken over by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
