What’s planned for the old Smokey Bones restaurant site in Fairview Heights?

Since Smokey Bones closed in March 2019, the building at 6118 N. Illinois St. in Fairview Heights sat quietly as other businesses developed around it.

Now there is finally a plan for the site of the long-shuttered restaurant.

The City of Fairview Heights recently approved the permit phase for a new tunnel car wash, said Land Use and Development Director Dallas Alley in a brief phone call.

A special use permit application was submitted in April for the addition of a Take 5 Car Wash.

Planning Commission meeting minutes from June 13 included a statement from senior civil engineer Andrew Barclay of Driven Brands, the parent company for Take 5.

Barclay stated that plans include an initial leasing of the property for 15 years with three options to extend for five years per extension, according to city documents.

The existing building will be demolished and reconstructed to accommodate the car wash, which was a reason for the long-term lease.

A proposed resolution for the development was part of the new business included in the July 18 City Council meeting.

More about this development will be reported as information becomes available.

In addition to a location in Fairview Heights, a Take 5 Car Wash is also being built in Belleville at 5600 Belleville Crossing.

Other growing car wash companies in the area include Club Car Wash, which acquired eight Tidal Wave Express Car Wash locations in Illinois and Missouri last September.
