Planning for a perfect Thanksgiving in Fayetteville

The biggest food holiday of the year is just a week away, and it’s all I can think about.

We’re hosting for the first time in my husband and I’s home in the Hawthorne neighborhood in Fayetteville. Two years ago, family and friends crowded into our tiny apartment on Ramsey Street. We had charcuterie, cranberry margaritas, a feast made from scratch, and everyone left happy and full.

This year will be a little more laid back, with less of a focus on toiling away in the kitchen, and more time spent relaxing and enjoying good company. Luckily, if you want to skip the dishes entirely with a dine-in meal or get a takeout to serve at home, there are a lot of delicious options around Fayetteville. Here’s a list of places to get Thanksgiving dinner.

Many of those spots also offer pies and other desserts. In a pinch, however, here are our rankings for the best and worst supermarket pecan pies.

With all the food, it’s easy to forget to plan the drinks. I’m a strong proponent of starting with a bourbon sidecar and ending the day with wine. If you’re looking for a local one to drink with Thanksgiving dinner, or just a place to unwind amidst the holiday madness, here’s a list of wineries around Fayetteville.

Like many, my Thanksgiving morning involves an early run around the neighborhood, but here are a few more creative ideas to work up an appetite ahead of Turkey Day.

What are you most excited about for the this Thanksgiving? Do you have any new traditions this year? Is there a dish from a local restaurant that has a well-earned spot on your table? I’d love to hear from you at tshook@gannett.com.

Happy eating,

Taylor
