Planning on seeing a movie in downtown Miami? Think again, the Silverspot Cinema is closed

The Silverspot Cinema, the only movie theater in downtown Miami, has closed its doors, but not forever. Watching movies or hanging out at the luxury spot will have to wait a few days.

The six-story cinema housed in a downtown skyscraper, at 300 SE Third St., is closed until Tuesday. A water main broke above the theater in Muze at Met Apartments and leaked down, said Illio Ulivi, managing partner of Silverspot Cinema.

The cinema does not have a working fire system, so it was forced to close its doors until repairs are done in case a fire occurs. The cinema also suffered water damage.

A message on the theater’s website read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances out of our control, our downtown Miami location is temporarily closed. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Customers can reschedule to another time or request a refund once the theater has reopened.”

Silverspot Cinema operates six facilities nationwide, three of them located in Florida. The downtown location features 17 theaters, reclining seats and in-theater dining service.

It also includes The Spot, a private auditorium with its own bar and lounge.

If you can’t wait to see a movie in a luxury cinema, the CMX Brickell City Centre is open and across the bridge from the Silverspot at 701 S. Miami Ave.
