Need plans for you and a bud? Celebrate 420 holiday in Fort Worth and it’s all legal

This Thursday marks an important date for those who celebrate all things marijuana.

April 20 or 420, has been synonymous with marijuana for decades. The origin of the triple-digit holiday is rooted in the early 1970s with a group of California friends obsessed with smoking weed and hunt for a fabled lost marijuana plant.

The five California teens, also known as the “Waldos,” heard that a Coast Guard member planted a cannabis plant nearby but could no longer take care of it, according to the History Channel. The Waldos would meet up after sports practice outside their school at exactly 4:20 p.m. everyday to smoke and then, with treasure map in hand, go out to hunt for the plant.

As the story goes, the Waldos never found the unattended bush, but their story lives on and now, over five decades later, their 420 terminology is part of the pop culture lexicon.

Power Sour at Martin House Brewing Company

Fort Worth businesses Martin House Brewing Company and Power Biopharms have partnered for a sour 420 collaboration.

The companies have collaborated on the theme of “Power Sour,” with Martin House releasing prickly pear and watermelon beer and Power Biopharms is crafting a delta-9 gummy in the same flavor. The collaboration is culminating in an event at Martin House on Thursday to celebrate both products.

Power Sour beer will be available on tap a the event and guests can find gummies there also.

Classic stoner comedies at Rooftop Cinema Club

Fort Worth’s Rooftop Cinema Club is ringing in 420 by showing two films associated with the green herb.

Richard Linklater’s 1993 stoner comedy “Dazed and Confused” is showing first at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill 2013 disaster comedy, “This Is the End,” at 10 p.m. Tickets are on-sale now at $19.50 a piece.

Texans will remember “Dazed and Confused” as the movie that launched Matthew McConaughey’s acting career and where he coined his famous phrase — “Alright, alright, alright.”

Thrive Apothecary’s annual 420 bash

Thrive Apothecary is ringing in the 420 holiday in a big way.

Attendees can expect live music, food and drink vendors, raffles and giveaways of Thrive’s cannabis products. The first 50 guests at Thursday’s event will receive a free goodie bag. Children and dogs are welcome at the 420 event.

420 Fest at the Haltom Theater

People going to the Haltom Theater on Thursday will leave feeling loud.

To ring in the 420 holiday, the theater is hosting heavy metal acts Elijah, AbaddoniaGnarwail, Ultimatum and Skybaus, on the main stage. Over on the Fostepco stage, Dank 817, Tropicanna, Trezmane, THC, Cj Topoff and several other hip hop and rap acts.

In addition to the live music, vendors will be set up around the theater.

Bearded Lady and Rahr & Sons 420 events

A pair of Fort Worth businesses are hosting 420 parties.

The Bearded Lady is collaborating with Wandering Roots Markets on a party complete with music, drinks, food and a 420 themed vendor market. Rahr & Sons Brewery Co. is doing the same, with reggae music, tacos, ice cream and several brews.
