A hero NYPD officer was honored Thursday in Queens.
- A hero NYPD officer is honored today in Queens. A plaque was unveiled for Detective Brian Simonsen at the one or two station house in Richmond Hill. The 42-year-old was killed by friendly fire two years ago as he responded to a robbery during a packed ceremony that 19-year-old rather the 19 year veteran of the NYPD was remembered as a brave man who touched a lot of lives.
FRANCIS NOONAN: There's not one tour that is completed without at least a story involving Brian. We're talking about how much we miss him.
LEANNE SIMONSEN: I'm just a girl who misses and loves my husband and I just want his memory out there forever.
- Special display was built inside the station house for the plaque and other items paying tribute to the detective.
