Plastic in the turkey? More than 14,000 pounds of Butterball and Kroger brands recalled

The latest not-food-in-your-food recall involves Butterball ground turkey, ground turkey made for the Kroger supermarket chain and “pieces of blue plastic embedded in raw ground turkey.”

That’s from the USDA-written-and-posted recall notice, which says 14,107 pounds of Kroger Ground Turkey and farm-to-family Butterball All-Natural Ground Turkey have been recalled. Butterball and the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service got complaints from consumers about the unwanted texture added to the ground turkey.

The Butterball product came in 2 1/2-pound trays with a sell or freeze by date of Oct. 18, 2021, and timestamps on the packaging of 2123 through 2302.
