Platte/Geddes knocks out Milbank, staves off elimination at Class B state Legion tourney

Jul. 30—GREGORY, S.D. — Platte/Geddes Post 115 extended its run at the South Dakota American Legion Class B state baseball tournament on Saturday with a 10-5 win over Milbank Post 9 in an elimination game.

Dakota Munger had four hits — three doubles and a home run — to propel the Whitecaps to the lead, with P/G up 9-0 after five innings of play. Munger finished with five RBIs and three runs scored. Caden Foxley had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in a pair of runs, while Joey Foxley and Oakley Kott each had three hits in the win. Caden Oberbroekling was the winning pitcher for Platte/Geddes, throwing 45 pitches and being pulled after 2 2/3 innings with six strikeouts and one hit allowed. Aiden Bultje, Caden Lenz and Joey Foxley worked together to cover the remainder of the game on the mound.

For Milbank, Kellen Hoeke had two hits and Bryce Lamp had a two-run RBI double. Hoeke was the losing pitcher, throwing five innings and allowing 13 hits, nine runs (five earned) and striking out three.

Platte/Geddes (14-4) will play either Winner/Colome or Vermillion at 1 p.m. on Sunday in an elimination game. Milbank's season ends at 18-9.

GREGORY, S.D. — Dell Rapids Post 65 pulled away on Saturday afternoon for a 13-run inning in the third frame to win an elimination game at the South Dakota American Legion Class B state baseball tournament.

For Dell Rapids, every starter in the lineup scored at least once, with the team picking up 12 hits and 10 walks at the plate. Will Jaton had four RBIs, while Braden Pankonen with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Aiden Boechler had two doubles and drove in a pair of runs for Dell Rapids. Tad Tjaden was able to pick up the win on the mound, throwing five innings, allowing four runs and striking out four in 72 pitches.

For H/H, Connor Siemonsma, Bennett Sebert, Deuce Sherard, Logan Maras and Jack Linneman each had hits. Andrew Zimmer was the losing pitcher for H/H, allowing eight runs on four hits in two innings.

Dell Rapids (22-11) will take on either Redfield or Gregory in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Hartford/Humboldt's season ends at 13-13.
