Youth Studio Class: Mixed Media: Join Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for Youth Studio Class: Mixed Media on Oct. 1, from 1 - 4 p.m. with artists Tiiwon Siaway, a talented and energetic artist and educator, for a creative afternoon in the MMFA’s studios. Tiiwon will be exploring collage-making and graphic journaling using newspaper and magazine clippings, scrap paper, glue, markers, and paint. Participants will create a personalized collage and short journal entries to complete their narratives. All experience levels are welcome. Each participant will leave with a masterpiece ready for the wall, not just the refrigerator. Registration fee of $35 includes all art-making materials available on www.mmfa.org and Museum members receive 25% on registration.

Art After Five: Yvonne Wells: Join Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for Art After Five: Yvonne Wells onOct. 4, from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Special guest Ryan Blocker, Museum Collections Coordinator from the Alabama Department of Archives and History, will present a brief talk on the preservation of textiles and how to save your favorite quilts from ruin! This event will include snacks and a cash bar.

Sew Their Names: Open Quilt Circle: Join Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for Sew Their Names: Open Quilt Circleon Oct. 6, from 4 - 5 p.m. with the quilters of Mount Willing in creating quilt pieces memorializing the names of enslaved people in Central Alabama. The public is welcome to bring their own names or fabric related to their history or to select from the list of names already compiled by the organizers. Sewing expertise is not required, and all materials will be provided.

Sew Their Names: Opening and Reception: Join Montgomery Museum of Fine arts for Sew Their Names: Opening and Reception on Oct. 6, from 5:30 - 7 p.m. The opening of this unique exhibition, where a new quilt by Wini McQueen—compiled of names from previous Sew Their Names sessions—will be unveiled alongside the works of Yvonne Wells in the Lowder Gallery. In addition to an introduction from Judge Walker and Reverend Braxton, quilters Yvonne Wells and Wini McQueen will speak about their process in the creation of the quilts on view. After the program, a reception will follow.

Open Studio with Korey Rowswell: Join Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for Open Studio with Korey Rowswell on October 15, from 1 - 4 p.m. where you can meet Korey Rowswell, the current featured artist of the Museum Shop. Rowswell will do a live demonstration and then create alongside participants. Artists are invited to bring 2D works in progress, sketchbooks, and anything from the approved materials list. In the Arts: Join Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for In the Arts on October 20, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. a career fair sponsored by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts’ Muses, Teen Council. We invited professionals in arts-related careers and community arts organizations to showcase their work and answer questions about their education and career paths. Teens can learn more about their creative passions and educational future from those making and creating in the River Region.

Pride Celebration at the MMFA:Join Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for Pride Celebration at the MMFA on October 22, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. as we kick-off Pride Week in Montgomery. Join the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and Montgomery Pride United for an afternoon of art and celebration. There will be demonstrating artists and performances from Montgomery Pride United, as well as, artmaking in the studios and tours of the permanent collection highlighting LGBTQ artists.

ArtTalk: Join Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for ArtTalk on Oct. 27, from 6 - 8 p.m. Get to know the River Region art scene with this critique group, where artists gather each month to enjoy camaraderie with peers while critiquing and learning about art around the area. Participants can bring one work of art for feedback or just join the conversation for creative inspiration!
