Play It Again Sports in Lubbock hosts 4 days of deals for grand opening weekend

On the heels of Texas Tech's Red Raider Football coming home victorious from the Texas Bowl in Houston, sports fans may have another reason to celebrate this weekend. A new sporting goods resale store is opening, and will offer a four-day celebration, with specials.

Play It Again Sports opened their doors at 5102 60th St. Unit G at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29. The store, known for buying, trading and reselling used sporting goods, kicked off the weekend with what they hoped would be touchdown-worthy deals.

Those deals included:

  • 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29: First 50 customers will receive a gift bag with t-shirts, gift cards and more.

  • 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday: Buy one used disc golf disc, get second for 50% off.

  • 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday: Buy any baseball glove priced above $19.99, receive a new Rawlings baseball.

  • Noon-5 p.m. Sunday: Wear your youth league jersey, receive a $10 gift card.

Brian Melakian, co-owner of the Lubbock location with Michael Ingersoll, previously managed a Play It Again Sports in 2000 and 2001.

"When Michael and I decided to partner in business together, my wife reminded me how much I enjoyed my time with Play It Again in Des Moines, and we knew it was the clear choice right away," Melakian said. "There’s a thriving youth sports community here in Lubbock, and there is a clear demand for affordable and high-quality sporting goods. We’re excited to open for local families so that we can support children’s activities, save the parents both time and money, as well as support adults who are looking for new ways to stay active and healthy."

People looking to sell their sports equipment do not need to make an appointment, and will be paid "on the spot," according to a company news release.

Play It Again Sports is part of Winmark - The Resale Company, which includes stores such as Plato's Closet and Music Go Round.
