'The Play Must Go On': Mumbai Locals Continue Volleyball Game in Deep Floodwater

Several feet of floodwater in Mumbai didn’t deter a group from playing a game of volleyball on Wednesday, September 4.

This video shows nine people playing in chest-high water at a flooded residential area in the east Mumbai neighborhood of Kurla.

Local media reported that 1,300 people were evacuated in Kurla, which was flooded with up to five feet of water from the nearby Mithi River.

The Times of India reported that continuous rainfall had led to water-logging in several parts of the city, disrupting road, rail, and air traffic.

The weather bureau warned of heavy rainfall in the state of Maharashtra until at least Sunday, September 8. Credit: Mohammed Azeem via Storyful
