Play retro arcade games, mini golf for free at KDL

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — Retro arcade games and mini golf are coming to the Kent District Library.

On Friday, the Grandville branch will offer around retro arcade games like Frogger and pinball machines. Unlike in a typical arcade, the games will be free to play.

The retro arcade games and mini golf will be available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the arcade games will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Later this month on Friday, Jan. 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the retro arcade and mini golf will be at the Cascade Township Branch, and the arcade games will again be available the next day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Leigh Verburg, the branch outreach and programming specialist for the Cascade and Caledonia Township branches, said KDL is hoping to use the events to reach people who don’t typically visit the library, like gamers.

“We just really want everybody to feel that the library is for them,” she said. “It’s really important that everybody feels included and welcome and like they have a place here. … Even the gaming community, which can be louder, but we’re not a silent library anymore, we’re a library for coffee and conversations and gaming and finding books, anything.”

The events can also help people beat the winter blues, offer free fun for teenagers or some nostalgia for older patrons.
