Playhouse Jr. takes center stage as longtime Flat Rock program gets new name

For more than 40 years, the education program at Flat Rock Playhouse has given young people a chance to learn, grow and conquer the stage. And now, it has a new name – Playhouse Jr.

The program, located in Flat Rock, North Carolina, includes classes and camps for grades K – 12 and adults, along with shows performed by and for students and families. Playhouse Jr. also encompasses a touring company that visits local schools and is performed by apprentices. And beyond the local stage, Playhouse Jr. includes a new licensing program for its original Playhouse Jr. productions.

Playhouse Jr. classes are semester long classes and summer camps in musical theatre, musical theatre dance and acting. Scholarships are available to students in need through the Dave Hart Scholarship fund.

Playhouse Jr. shows are performed on the MainStage and are fully supported by Flat Rock Playhouse and its professional technical elements. Shows will include the world premiere of all Playhouse Jr. originals, along with other productions.

Playhouse Jr. Touring Company travels to public elementary and middle schools throughout Western North Carolina and surrounding areas, bringing a professional theater experience with shows based on education and literature.

Playhouse Jr. Licensing offers affordable shows to schools, children's theaters and community theaters. Materials are tailored to youth performers and Theatre for Young Audiences.
