Playoff Football Scoreboard: Lucas ends road trip with playoff victory over Toronto
The first round of the 2022 high school football playoffs is in the books.
And Lucas, Mansfield Senior, Crestview and Clear Fork are still alive and well.
The Cubs pulled off a road upset while the rest of the teams took care of business on their home fields. Let's see how the Cubs managed a victory as well as scores from other playoff games in the area Friday night with the Playoff Football Scoreboard.
Lucas 35, Toronto 26
The Cubs may have gone in as underdogs in their No. 10 vs. No. 7 matchup with Toronto, but they came out with a much-needed victory, ending a 2½-hour road trip to the border of Ohio and West Virginia with a playoff win in their fifth consecutive season.
After the Red Knights took an early 7-0 lead with a touchdown on the second play of the game, the Cubs answered quickly when Logan Toms finished off a drive with a 3-yard plunge. After Toronto responded by taking a 14-7 lead, the Cubs punched back when Toms ran 3 yards for his second touchdown of the night with 32 seconds left in the first half.
The Cubs then received the second-half kickoff and wasted no time. Toms got loose again, this time from 48 yards out, to put the Cubs up 21-14 and they didn't look back. Toms scored his fourth TD on a 45-yard run with 7:55 left in the third to make it 28-14 heading into the fourth.
The Red Knights scored with 1:43 left in the game to make it 28-26, but Toms finished his busy night with his fifth touchdown with 1:33 left in the game.
Lucas finished with 377 yards rushing on 49 carries, including 260 yards on 25 touches by Toms.
The Cubs advanced to the regional quarterfinals and will travel to No. 2 seed Lowellville on Friday night.
