CHELSEA — Milan just couldn’t stop Chelsea.

The Big Reds saw a slim 14-6 first-quarter deficit bloat to a 28-6 deficiency by halftime of their eventual 49-12 loss to the top-rated and undefeated Bulldogs.

“We had opportunities early to make it a game,” said Milan coach Jesse Hoskins. “…We knew we had to take chances, but we weren’t able to get many stops.”

Jett Isaacs led the team with 83 yards on 7 receptions.

“As always, our kids were tough and fought the entire way,” Hoskins said.

Marine City 49, Dundee 6

MARINE CITY — Dundee trailed Marine City 28-0 at halftime as the Vikings (6-5) struggled to contain the Mariners’ big plays.

“They’re a legit title contender,” said Dundee coach Steve Ayre. “Statistically in every category they’re the number three team in the state on offense, regardless of division. We knew we had our job cut out for us. We did pretty well early… We got beat by a couple of big plays. They made a bunch of plays.”

One of Marine City’s touchdowns came on a 102-yard interception return.

Dundee freshman quarterback Ryan Zanger scored Dundee’s lone touchdown of the night on an 8-yard scramble in the fourth quarter.

Despite how it ended, Ayre said he was proud of the season his team put together.

“I can’t speak to where Dundee was at as a program before I got here, but the growth I’ve seen in the two years I’ve been here is tremendous,” he said. “Where we started last year, versus where we finished this year, and that the seniors were able to do that with three different head coaches in three years is a testament to their willingness to persevere.”
