Playoff roundup: CK girls hoops advances at district tournament

Central Kitsap's girls basketball team extended its season Friday with a 52-23 victory over Thomas Jefferson in the first round of the Class 3A West Central/Southwest Bi-District tournament. Senior Sahara Soufi scored 16 points and Abi Lundblad added 13 points for the Cougars (10-9).

The 12th seed in the tournament, Central Kitsap faces another loser-out game on Tuesday on the road against No. 4 Evergreen of Vancouver.

Crosspoint (14-7) cruised to a 55-14 victory over Puget Sound Adventist in the first round of the 1B Tri-District tournament on Saturday. With the victory, the Rangers earn a rematch against Evergreen Lutheran in the quarterfinal around Feb. 14. Evergreen Lutheran knocked off Crosspoint 29-27 in the Sea-Tac League championship game on Feb. 8, which cost the Rangers a first-round district bye.

Bainbridge's girls were knocked out of the 3A West Central/Southwest Bi-District tournament on Friday with a 36-33 defeat against Silas. The Spartans finished the season with a 12-10 record.

In the 4A West Central/Southwest Bi-District tournament on Friday, South Kitsap's girls were eliminated after a 66-53 loss against Skyview. The Wolves ended their campaign at 11-11.

North Kitsap captures boys swim/dive district title

North Kitsap's boys swim/dive team will head into next week's state tournament with momentum after claiming Saturday's Class 2A/1A West Central District championship at Mount Tahoma High School. The Vikings totaled 253 team points to finish ahead of Steilacoom (234) and Sammamish (217).

Seniors Mac MacKinnon and Ian Stefanski led the Vikings with individual race wins. MacKinnon won the 100-yard freestyle in 50.65 seconds, while Stefanski captured victory in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.43.

North Kitsap also captured two relay wins: Stefanski teamed with seniors August Maberry, Gage Hendryx and freshman Max Nolan to take first in the 200 medley relay in 1:46.81; Stefanski, MacKinnon, Maberry and junior Levi McLain combined to swim 3:23.75 in the 400 free relay.

Notable finishes by West Sound competitors were: 200 freestyle: McLain (2nd, 1:51.32); 1-meter diving: North Kitsap's Rydley Strong (6th, 184.45 points); 100 butterfly: McLain (4th, 57.04); 100 freestyle: Bremerton's Brandon Gill (2nd, 51.00); 500 freestyle: Hendryx (2nd, 5:16.96), Kingston's Josh VanHuis (4th, 5:25.35); 200 free relay: North Kitsap (2nd, 1:34.26); 100 backstroke: Stefanski (2nd, 57.21); Maberry (3rd, 57.80); 100 breaststroke: Kingston's Zachary Cummings (4th, 1:04.95);
