Playoff Roundup: Norwayne, Dalton win openers in dominant fashion

Round 1

Div. V Region 17

Norwayne 71, Harrison Central 7

This one became academic very quickly as Norwayne rolled right past Harrison Central for an opening round playoff win.

Jake Gill and Eli Stanley led the way for the Bobcats as they combined to account for six touchdowns in the victory.

"We had a good team win," said Norwayne coach Adam Indorf. "Our young men played well."

Gill rumbled to the house on runs of 37, 15 and four yards and Stanley fired scoring strikes of 62 (Lucas Dudte), 84 (Roman Portis) and seven yards (Jay Hanzie). He finished with 260 yards passing on 9-of-11 throwing.

Brady Lendon had three catches for 44 yards as Dudte, Hanzie and Nathan Stoller each had two catches. Mason Moyer added 71 rushing yards on seven carries, Stoller added a second score on a one-yard run and Dylan Smith hauled an interception to the house from 60 yards out. Hayden Ringle nailed a 38-yard field and Jaxon Siegenthaler added 44 yards passing and had two passing touchdowns.

The Bobcats will play host to Cardinal Mooney next Friday at 7 p.m.

Garaway 49, Smithville 7

Smithville couldn't keep up with state hopeful Garaway in first round action.

But that didn't take away from the Smithies' success as a whole in 2022. A year after going 2-8, the Phil Olsen's Smithies played like the teams of old under the guidance of Olsen's former coach and legendary Keith Schrock. Much like Schrock did, Olsen empowered his team, and they overcame injuries to finish 6-5.

"I am beyond proud of what the boys have done," said Olsen. "The trajectory of the program is moving up and we are thankful for our seniors who have been a big part of that. We have a good core of players returning next year and we are really excited where Smithville football is headed."

The Smithies scored on Mason Haines one-yard plunge late in the game as Gabe Copley finished with a team-high 61 rushing yards and Haines added 24 yards.

Perry 60, Triway 8

Third-seeded Perry jumped all over Triway in this opening round playoff game as it roared out to a 60-0 halftime lead.

The Titans got on the board with 3:47 left in the third quarter when they blocked a punt for a safety. Then with three minutes left in the game, Cale Drown raced to the house from seven yards out for the final score.

Drown finished with 109 yards passing on 16-of-27 throwing as he found Caleb Colter for nine completions for 51 yards. He also hooked up with Cooper Barton for five catches and 51 yards.

Div. VI, Region 21

Dalton 62, Jackson Milton 7

Dalton kept its regular season momentum rolling with this opening round win over Jackson Milton by a dominating decision.

Colin Pearson threw for 180 yards on 10-of-14 passing for three scores and Greyson Siders ran for 128 and scored once.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a date with Brookfield, who they will host next Friday at 7 p.m.
