Plenty of choices for July 4 festivities in Lee, neighboring counties

Jul. 1—Residents of Lee and neighboring counties have a great selection of Fourth of July celebrations that begin this weekend.

A main kickoff event for local residents is Sunday at the Ammons Farm Annual Fourth of July Festival which culminates in a dazzling display of fireworks.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with festivities including live music provided by the band Takin Names, food trucks and cool beverages provided by the Lee County Slammers, Pop's Diner, Taqueria Vivas, Vintage Scoops, Pelican's SnoBalls of Sanford and Brick City Boba. Face-painting will be provided by Face2face and C-Cape will have a display of antique tractors and a fresh lemonade stand.

The fireworks are scheduled to begin at dark, around 9 or 9:15 p.m.

The celebration will be held at 2702 Farrell Road with parking in a field beside Sanford Health and Rehabilitation, a news release said.

Bring blankets, chairs and bug sprays, but leave grills at home along with drones and pets — unless you have a service dog.

There is no fee, but the Lee County Slammers will be taking donations at the gate to support youth volleyball.
