Plenty of conference success for area wrestlers

The Plainwell wrestling team won the individual conference tournament held on Saturday for the Wolverine. The Trojans piled up 215.5 total points for the event. Three Rivers came in second place as a team with 185 points, Otsego finished third with 130.5 total points.

Sturgis was eighth overall.

The Trojans got a second-place finish from Kaiden Waldron at 132 pounds. He reached the finals, but fell in overtime to Lane Blanchard of Otsego, 5-3.

Finishing third overall for Sturgis was Aaron Castro. He beat Alex Raseman of Otsego in the third-place match with a 7-2 score.

Three Rivers finished with five conference champions.

Lloyd Ruesink brought home the title at 190 pounds, beating Gavin Turk of Paw Paw by a 5-1 win.

Jacob Reynolds won the conference crown at 285. Once in the win, Reynolds beat Adin Young of Plainwell with a 4-1 victory. Clinton Kaiser won his flight at 106 pounds as well. He defeated Tristan Starett of Plainwell with a pin in the finals.

Winning at 144 pounds was Louis Smith. He won his first two matches by pinfall, then defeated Marco Vega of Plainwell in the finals with a technical fall at 15-0. Jeremiah Detwiler won the conference title at 157 pounds as well. He won by major decision over Connor Plotts of Otsego with a 10-2 score in the finals.

Finishing second was Talan Flowers at 120 and Landon Moreland at 150. Placing third was Jak Monroe at 113 and Ayden Keller at 132. Finishing fourth was both Carter Hensley at 126 and Drew McClain at 138.

Constantine wins SAC title

The Constantine wrestling team won the individual SAC title on Saturday with 244 total points. Martin came in second with 186 and Lawton was third at 166.

There were five conference champions for the Falcons on the day.

At 120 pounds, Preston Like won all three of his matches. He beat Luke Isbrecht of Watervliet, 7-0, in the finals. Bear Geibe wrestled to a conference crown at 126. He won all three of his matches by pinfall on the day, including pinning Gage Vincent of Delton Kellogg in the finals.

Brody Jones won each of his matches at 144. In the finals, he beat JJ Crall of Lawton, 7-2.

Gregg Reed wrestled to first place at 215. He beat Giorgio Venturi of Delton Kellogg in the finals with a score of 6-2. Bennett VandenBerg won all three of his matches as well at 285. He beat Mason Mayne of Lawton with a 6-2 score in the finals.

Dathan Smith at 165, Julian Hawthorne at 175 and Troy Demas at 190 all finished second overall. Jace Vavul was third at 113, Carter Godfrey also claimed third place at 157. Collin Featherstone finished fourth at 132, as did Koltin Gross at 150.

Bronson wins Big 8

The Bronson wrestling team claimed the Big 8 individual conference crown on Saturday. The Vikings finished with 169 total points at the event, beating Union City’s 161.5 points for second place.

Quincy came in third at 143.5 points, Jonesville finished fourth with 96.5 points. Reading, Homer, Springport and Concord also competed at the event.

Bronson finished with four conference champions on the day.

At 120 pounds, Owen Kimmons finished with two wins after receiving a bye. He beat Caleb Rose of Quincy by pinfall in 23 seconds in the finals. Layne Knisely (138 pounds) also won his flight, winning three matches and pinning Aidan Taylor of Union City in the finals at the 3:44 mark.

Carson Norton had a bye in the opening round at 165. He then won his final two matches, beating Austin Bowers of Jonesville by a 9-6 decision to win the flight. Jacob Britten won the 175-pound flight as well. He won both of his matches, including beating Lukas Strine of Reading in the finals at 6-0.

Aiden Fill at 113, Perry Lake at 126 and Drew Seekman at 150 each finished second in their respective flights. Finishing third was both Jacob Dixon at 190 and Matthew Blankenship at 215.

Both Gabriel Erwin at 144 and Mason Lindsey at 157 finished with fourth-place finishes.

Centreville second at SW10

The Centreville wrestling team finished second overall at the SouthWest10 individual championships on Saturday. The Bulldogs finished with 151.5 total points on the day, finishing behind Decatur’s 166.5 team points. White Pigeon finished third with 132.5 points, Mendon came in sixth place with 97 points.

There were two conference champions for Centreville.

Noah Brooks brought home first place at 138 pounds. He beat Jaiden Horvath of Bangor in the finals with a pinfall at 2:52, it was his fourth win of the day. Gavin Bunning claimed a conference title as well at 175 pounds. Bunning beat Lincoln Birkhead of Hartford by pinfall in the finals at the 1:51 mark.

Seven other Bulldogs finished with placements as well.

Brady Miller at 132 finished second, Chaseton Wyckoff also finished second at 150. Earning third place was Rockne Hamilton at 106, Lukas Brooks at 144 and Owen Taylor at 157. Wrestling to fourth place was Braxton Harker at 126 and Douglas Wood at 215.

Mendon claimed three conference champions on the day.

Noah Iobe at 285 picked up a win in the finals over Braydon Ross of Decatur, 5-0. Prior to that, he won two matches. Nate Vergauwen wrestled to first place at 126 pounds. He beat Alejandro Saldana of Hartford with a score of 12-7 in the finals. Also claiming first place at 132 pounds was Caleb King. He beat Miller (Centreville) by pinfall in the finals at 5:01.

Wrestling to third place was James Lux at 175 pounds. He beat Landen Swetz of Decatur in the third-place match with a score of 5-0. Both Marcus Hodges (150) and Grant Crotser (157) finished fourth.

White Pigeon finished with eight podium wrestlers. The Chiefs had four conference champions.

At 106 pounds, Mazzy Lambert beat Brandon Hemminger of Cassopolis by a pin at 1:18 in the finals. Also winning a conference title was Evan Rudloff at 150 pounds. He pinned Wyckoff (Centreville) at 2:21 of their finals matchup. Prior to that, Rudloff won both of his matches by pin as well.

Caleb Lane wrestled to first place at 165 pounds. He beat Jared Waldschmidt of Cassopolis with a score of 12-7 in the finals.

Nate Irwin also finished first overall. He beat Jay Claxton of Comstock with a 7-6 decision at 190 in the finals.Drew Johnson at 120 wrestled to second place. Finishing third was Hunter Pant at 113, Gavin McGrady came in fourth place at 132. Jesse Fielis was fourth as well at 138.
