Plenty of new stores for shopping as study finds Charlotte consumers plan to spend more

With Charlotte shoppers expecting to spend more this holiday season, according to a new report, there are many new retail store options in the region.

Charlotte shoppers plan to spend an average of $2,082 for holiday gifts, up 37% from last year, according to a holiday retail survey by Deloitte, a consumer industry research firm. It’s 26% higher than the national average of $1,652, according to the report.

Charlotte shoppers plan to buy 10 gifts, the same number as last year, according to Deloitte. That’s despite 69% of people surveyed saying they expect higher prices.

Local shoppers also plan to scout for deals during Thanksgiving week, 79%, compared to 54% last year.

And while the Deloitte study found the majority of shoppers, 64%, plan to shop online, 77% of Charlotte customers often or always shop at their favorite retailer.

For shoppers heading out in the Charlotte region on Black Friday and throughout the holiday season, there are plenty of stores that have opened over the past year to check out. Here is some of what to expect:

Birkdale Village

Birkdale Village development in Huntersville, north of Charlotte, had over a dozen openings including:

Southern Tide, based in Greenville, S.C., and founded in 2006, sells coastal apparel for men, women and children. The company has nine stores in Florida, Massachusetts and North Carolina.

Monkee’s, based in Winston-Salem, sells upscale designer women’s fashion clothing, shoes and apparel. The Birkdale Village franchise owner is Kim Dawsey of Huntersville.

Anthropologie, based in Philadelphia, is a national retail chain specializing in women’s apparel, shoes, accessories, beauty, home décor, furniture and bridal.

Evereve, based in Minnesota, is a national retailer known for personalized styling and apparel labels like Citizens of Humanity and Michael Stars.

Lilly Pulitzer, based in Pennsylvania, is an iconic fashion brand by the late Palm Beach socialite and designer known for floral print clothing and other wares.

Just in time for the holidays, Dublin-based Primark will debut Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at Concord Mills. It’s the first store in the Carolinas.

Concord Mills

At Concord Mills at 8111 Concord Mills Blvd.:

Alex Baby & Toy, open at entrance 5, carries toy brands including G.I. Joe, Masters of the Universe, Lego, Marvel and Star Wars.

Cotton: On, an Australian retailer that sells apparel and accessories at entrance six.

Hollister / Gilly Hicks, part of national apparel retailer Hollister Co., across from The Children’s Place at Concord Mills. Gilly Hicks carries bras, bralettes, undies, swimwear, loungewear and sleepwear.

The North Face, an apparel store known for its hiking and outdoor apparel and equipment at entry two.

MINISO, a chain store specializing in cosmetics, stationery, toys and kitchenware, at entrance seven next to Lucky Brand.

Primark, known for its budget-friendly prices, the store opened Nov. 16 near entrance 3 and Dick’s Sporting Good. The 30,000-square-foot store is stocked with apparel for women, men and children, plus homeware and beauty supplies.

Splash, at entrance 6 between Old Navy and Burlington, sells plant-based, homemade cosmetics, including bath soaps, body butters, scrubs, candles and hair products.

Ugg, known for its sheepskin boot originating in Australia, at entry six beside Old Navy.

Midtown area

Charlotte Cycles opened a second location less than a half-mile from the 8-year-old business’ original site. The new, 2,400-square-feet location at 601 S. Kings Drive serves as Charlotte Cycles’ sales center. It’s twice the size of the 337 Baldwin Ave. site, which is now Charlotte Cycles’ service center.

Northlake Mall

Northlake Mall at 6801 Northlake Mall Drive:

3SIX92, women’s apparel store, which also has a store on Concord Mills Boulevard.

American Eagle, casual clothing, accessories and footwear, based in Pittsburgh.

Custom Place, a customized T-shirt, hoodies and hats shop.

Phillips Place

Phillips Place added several brands:

Alice + olivia made its North Carolina. The brand is a favorite with celebrities like Beyoncé, Sarah Jessica Parker and Taylor Swift. Launched in 2002 by Stacey Bendet, the line includes a full collection of ready-to-wear, gowns, shoes, accessories and handbags.

Jenni Kayne: California lifestyle brand by Jenni Kayne includes apparel and home goods, plus the beauty and skincare line Oak Essentials. The fashion style is comfort staples in neutrals.

La Vie Style House, founded in 2013 by friends Lindsey McClain and Jamie Coulter, offers one-size-fits-all kimono and caftans.

Rag & Bone, founded in 2002 by London designer Marcus Wainwright, merges British tailoring with New York sensibility making jeans, knitwear, outerwear, suits and accessories. It’s a favorite with actress Winona Ryder and model Emily Ratajkowski.

Veronica Beard, sisters-in-law Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard launched the NYC-based brand in 2010 with their signature Dickey Jacket. The store carries the brand’s full line of women’s ready-to-wear, accessories and shows.

Yardbird, owned by Best Buy, opened a showroom at 4425 Sharon Road in Charlotte.

SouthPark

Best Buy debuted a new store offering — patio furniture — at 4425 Sharon Road. Yardbird showroom sells outdoor dining sets and lounge seating, fire tables and accessories like umbrellas.

SouthPark mall

At SouthPark at 4400 Sharon Road:

Alexander McQueen near Neiman Marcus on the second level. The luxury brand sells women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories.

Brahmin, a luxe leather handbags and accessories store based in Massachusetts, in the Nordstrom wing.

Omega, a Swiss brand watch company, near center court next to Lucky Brand.

Aritzia, a Canadian women’s luxury apparel brand, between Lego and Kate Spade.

Alo Yoga, a yoga clothing stores, in the Nordstrom wing next to Tiffany.

Royal Reflections, a nail salon, near J. Jill.

PXG, which opened its 21st store in Charlotte, offers right- and left-handed golf clubs, including drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and putters, as well as high-performance, sport fashion apparel and accessories.

University area

PXG (Parson Xtreme Golf), based in Arizona, opened at 7101 MacFarlane Blvd. in University City, near Topgolf. The 7,546-square-foot facility sells only its brand of custom clubs, which are not available at any other retail stores.
