Plexiglass to separate Harris and Pence at debate: Source
When Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic challenger Kamala Harris meet for their one-and-only debate on Wednesday - they will be separated by plexiglass, a source told Reuters, in an effort to lower the risk of coronavirus transmission.
This comes after President Donald Trump tested positive for the coronavirus only days after debating rival Joe Biden last week. Trump spent the weekend and Monday in the hospital for treatment for COVID-19. Biden has tested negative so far…
But the Democrats don't want to take any chances…
In a statement, Pence's spokeswoman, Katie Miller, said, "If Senator Harris wants to use a fortress" around her, "have at it." The Biden campaign declined to comment.
Meanwhile, Biden, speaking to reporters in Delaware on Monday before flying to battleground state Florida, said he'd move forward with his next presidential debate against Trump if the experts deem it safe. Dr. Jill Biden appeared to enforce social distancing as he spoke, physically pulling her husband back from reporters.
BIDEN: "Listen to the science. If the scientists say -- if the scientists say that it's safe, and the distances are safe, then I think that's fine. I'll do whatever the experts say is the appropriate thing to do."
In Miami later Monday where he sought the Latino vote, Biden said Trump's health scare should be a wake-up-call.
BIDEN: "I was glad to see the president speaking and recording videos over the weekend. Now that he's busy tweeting campaign messages, I would ask him to do this: Listen to the scientists, support masks. Support mask mandates nationwide. Require masks in every federal building and facility and interstate travel. Urge every governor to do the same. We know it saves lives."
The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll released Monday shows Biden leading Trump in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania - two critical swing states - less than a month before the Nov. 3 election.
