Plumas County Devastated by Dixie Fire, Now the Third-Largest in California History
The Dixie Fire has become the third-largest wildfire in California’s history, burning 432,813 acres (676 square miles) of land according to the latest official reports.
Footage shows burned buildings and vehicles and smoke-filled skies along Highway 89, in Canyondam, and south of Lake Almanor West in Plumas County.
Over 5,200 personnel have been deployed to combat the wildfire, which is 35 percent contained. Official reports noted that on the night of August 5, the wildfire spread rapidly, in part due to warm temperatures and strong winds.
The wildfire in Butte and Plumas counties has been active for 23 days.
