Plymouth Schools Detail Hybrid, Fully Remote School Options

PLYMOUTH, MA —Plymouth students in two groups will alternate in-classroom and remote learning days as part of the hybrid learning model the Plymouth School Committee adopted for the new school year beginning Sept. 16.

A fully remote learning plan will also be offered for parents and guardians of students who do not feel comfortable sending students back to in-classroom learning at this time, or whose students would have trouble returning to in-classroom learning amid the coronavirus crisis due to health concerns.

Remote learning will take place Mondays for all students with about 4.5 hours of direct learning. One group of students will go to school Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the other group attending Wednesdays and Fridays. Students will be grouped alphabetically with A-K in Group A and L-Z in Group B by last name.

Families with different last nights will be assigned to the same group and attend schools on the same day.

High-need students have the option to attend in-person schools five days per week.

Under the fully remote option, students in kindergarten will follow a district remote learning schedule administered by district teachers. Students in seventh through 12th grade will use curriculum administered by the TEC Connections Academy and Commonwealth of Massachusetts Virtual School.

Those students will remain enrolled in Plymouth Public Schools if they desire to return.

"Due to our extensive course of study at the high school level, the full remote option may not entirely mirror the hybrid education," Maestas said. "However, all course credits will be included on your child's transcript as a Plymouth student and will not negatively impact their progress as a student in the Plymouth Public Schools."

While not all high school remote courses will be taught by Plymouth teachers, there will be Plymouth educators and counselors assigned to monitoring students' progress and providing support.

"This is a difficult time for everyone and the only way that we can work though the challenges ahead is to work together," Maestas said. "The School Administration is committed to working with you to make this transition as manageable as possible. If you have any specific questions relative to the hybrid model or the remote model, please feel free to reach out to your school's building administration to discuss."
