PNM and AVANGRID award five nonprofits for National Pride Month

In honor of National Pride Month, PNM and AVANGRID donated $25,000 total to five nonprofits that have a demonstrated commitment to equality within the LGBTQ+ community.

“PNM is proud to support our LGBTQ+ community while promoting diversity, equity and inclusion throughout our state,” said Pat Vincent-Collawn, Chairman and CEO for PNM. “The impact of these five organizations reflect the power that our community members can have in making a difference in the lives and wellbeing of our LGBTQ+ youth.”

“AVANGRID is proud to support the LGBTQ+ community and we are proud of our corporate policies that support diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Bob Kump, Deputy CEO of AVANGRID.

Alianza of New Mexico, Casa Q, Equality New Mexico, Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico and Youth Shelters & Family Services each received $5,000 toward their services supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

“Alianza has been working to empower ‘hard-to-reach” and underserved populations since 1995. Our dedication to the community began with serving those living with HIV/AIDS. This initial work has grown to ensure we fight for equality for individuals using substances, those at risk for HIV and individuals are facing homelessness. We are so grateful for all of our partnerships including this one with PNM and AVANGRID. Since 100% of all donations go to those we serve, these funds will allow Alianza to help when there are no grant funds to cover a client necessity such as medicine, hygiene or other basic human necessity.” – Ryan M. Nix, Executive Director of Alianza of New Mexico.

"CasaQ gives thanks to PNM and AVANGRID for supporting LGBTQIA+ youth in New Mexico. PNM's generous support will assist homeless youth living in CASAQ's shelter and Transitional living programs with school supplies, employment support and Summer passes to Meow Wolf and Cliffs amusement park." – Steven Serrano, Program Directory of Casa Q.

"Equality New Mexico is working hard year-round to achieve liberation for Queer and Trans New Mexicans through systems change, public education, and policy shift. We are excited to be recognized for the work we are doing by PNM and AVANGRID and look forward to a strong and rich collaboration that helps to lift every LGBTQ New Mexican up." – Marshall Martinez, Executive Director of Equality New Mexico.

“The Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico is dedicated to empowering, enriching, and celebrating the lives of transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse New Mexicans, along with their families and loved ones, through advocacy, education and direct services. One of those direct services is our community drop-in center, which is a safe and affirming place for individuals to receive services and be in community with one another. We are grateful to PNM and AVANGRID for their generous donation and support, which will allow us to purchase new furniture for the drop in center space. Everyone deserves a safe and affirming space to sit and relax. This donation will help us continue to provide this for our participants.” – T. Michael Trimm, Executive Director of Services and Administration of Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico.

"What a wonderful way to celebrate Pride Month in New Mexico! Thank you, PNM and AVANGRID, for supporting New Mexico’s LGBTQ+ young people in such a generous and life-changing way! We know that approximately 40% of young people who are at-risk, runaway or experiencing homelessness identify as LGBTQ+…for Youth Shelters & Family Services, that means almost 400 of our clients will benefit from your generosity this year. Thank you again, PNM! You are making a difference in New Mexico!” – John Jones, Director of Development for Youth Shelters & Family Services.
