Are you a Pocono pet owner? It's time to renew your dog license. Here's how

Dog owners in Pennsylvania can purchase 2023 dog licenses now at county treasurer offices.

State law requires all dogs three months and older to be licensed by January 1 of each year regardless of when the license was purchased the previous year. Failing to secure a license can result in a fine up to $300, plus court costs.

An annual dog license is $8.50, and a lifetime license is $51.50. If the animal is spayed or neutered, the annual fee is $6.50, and lifetime license is $31.50.

Discounts are also available to senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.

Lifetime licenses are available for canines that have permanent identification like a microchip or tattoo.

Pike County Treasurer John Gilpin stated that the dog license application is simple and only requires owner contact information and details about the dog being licensed, including name, age, breed and color.

Gilpin offered these reasons for dog licensing:

  • If a dog gets lost, a license is the best way to help reunite the dog with his or her rightful owner.

  • Licensing your dog is a state mandated law.

  • The cost of acquiring a dog license is significantly less than the penalty for being caught without one.

  • The fee attached to dog licenses supports animal control, including helping to keep shelters running, and supports the work of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement, which provides numerous vital services to protect dogs and the public.

Dog licenses can be purchased completely online from padoglicense.com.

You can also apply for a dog license online at licenseyourdogpa.pa.gov/files/licenseyourdog.aspx, or choose from the following local options.
