Back in the 1940s and '50s, big band jazz played by orchestras that were led by such legends as Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway was some of the most popular music in America.

In the segregated of Wilmington that time, a home for that music was The Barn, a club that catered to a mostly Black audience and hosted these and many other touring jazz acts with music highly suitable for dancing.

The latest Cape Fear Unearthed podcast episode featuring The Barn debuts Friday. Until then, you can catch up on other recent episodes.
