PODCAST: Impact of Disneyland dragon fire, BBot security robot rolls into town and Icon Park debuts retro game (Ep. 187)

On this episode of Theme Park Rangers, Orlando Sentinel tourism reporters Dewayne Bevil and Katie Rice discuss the fire that damaged the Maleficent dragon at Disneyland and its impact on Disney World shows. They also introduce listeners to BBot, one of the latest security employees at the Orange County Convention Center. The egg-shaped, 5-foot-2-inch “K5″ machine from robotics security company Knightscope arrived at the convention center this week. It is expected to clock in for its first shift in early May, making the convention center the first major tourism business in Orlando to deploy an autonomous security machine among the public. And the Wheel at Icon Park debuted an onboard gaming element called The Great Florida Road Trip. The game at the International Drive attraction is built upon Sunshine State history, carries a retro postcard theme, features the Flamingo Family characters and is played with a faux vintage camera outfitted with an infrared beam.
