Jan. 16—NORTHUMBERLAND — Point Township has a new supervisor. Joe Stender Jr. was recently appointed to fill the seat held by his father, supervisor Joe Stender Sr., who has resigned for health reasons.

Joe Sr. has been on the board for 21 years, and still had two years left on his current 4-year term as supervisor. Joe Jr. will serve out the length of that term.

"Joe Jr. had been coming to a lot of the meetings with his father, understands the issues, and he seemed to be the logical person to put in that chair," said supervisor Randy Yoxheimer. Stender's nephew is Pa. Rep. Michael Stender, R-108, Sunbury.

Yoxheimer was subsequently retained as board chair after a vote during the reorganization meeting. Supervisor Thomas Strouse was voted vice chairman.

In action items, the township has put out to bid a two-and-a half size garage for equipment that needs protection from inclement weather. The township received $50,000 ARPA funds from the county, but Yoxheimer said an additional $100,000 will have to be invested by the township to pay for the garage project.

A number of personnel appointments were approved at the reorganization meeting. Richard Shoch Law Office was retained as township solicitor.

Also approved were: Todd Pysher, engineers; Jared Wehry, road master; William Toth, sewage enforcement officer (SEO); Jackie Hart, zoning enforcement officer; and Michael Erdman, emergency management director.

Yoxheimer remains a representative on the township's sewer authority.
