It was a rough stretch at the ballpark for Amarillo last week when it hosted Tulsa.

The hometown Sod Poodles, which secured one win, dropped to (18-21) after the Drillers earned five.

Despite their one-win week and a 4-8 record over the past two, the Amarillo Sod Poodles own the best offense in the Texas League.

Amarillo currently ranks first in batting average, hits, runs scored and OPS while ranking second in home runs, doubles and triples.

A large reason for those top rankings has been the play of 23-year-old Venezuelan infielder Leandro Cedeno.

His batting average (.358) ranks second in the Texas League and is tied for third in all of Double-A baseball. He also ranks first on the team with 15 multi-hit games this season and is on pace to record the most hits, home runs and RBI in a season during his seven-year minor league career.

On Saturday night, Cedeno hit a single that marked the 400th of his minor league career. He spent the first six in the St. Louis Cardinals organization before joining Arizona's heading into this season.

Arizona's No. 1 prospect Corbin Carroll has also been on fire at the plate lately and has been arguably the most consistent offensive producer for Amarillo this season. Over the past 10 games, Carroll is 13-for-39 (.333) with three home runs, eight RBI, and 16 runs scored.

Standout outfielder Dominic Fletcher was promoted to Triple-A Reno early last week after going 44-for-127 (.346) with seven home runs, 34 RBI and 28 runs scored in 32 games for the Soddies this spring.

Amarillo owns an 18-21 overall record and is scheduled to face off against Arkansas — the affiliate of the Seattle Mariners — for the first time since Sept. 2019.

Arkansas (18-21) enters the new week coming off of a 4-2 homestand against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

Amarillo Sod Poodles pitcher Deyni Olivero (24) pitches against the Tulsa Drillers on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at HODGETOWN in Amarillo, Texas.

The Mariners' top-rated prospects that are currently playing for Arkansas are right-handed pitcher Emerson Hancock (No. 5), right-handed pitcher Levi Stoudt (No. 6) and outfielder Zach DeLoach (No. 11). Hancock was drafted 6th overall by Seattle in the 2020 MLB Draft. He is 0-1 in two games played (4 IP) this season with a 4.50 ERA and five strikeouts.

DeLoach is batting .246 (32-for-130) this season with two home runs, 18 RBI and 19 runs scored.
