GHENT, WV (WVNS) – Tuesday, February 27th, 2024, was a big day for Pokémon fans!

The 27th of February marks the birthday of the Pokémon franchise and is often a day when The Pokémon Company announces upcoming games and events. Tuesday was no different with a Pokémon Presents kicking off at nine o’clock that morning.

The day’s Pokémon Presents kicked off with a trail of unown following a pikachu, prompting some fans to immediately speculate that they were about to get a Let’s Go Johto game at the end of the presentation (it’s me; I’m “some fans”). Johto fans should not get too riled up though, because a Let’s Go game was not in the announcement today. That doesn’t mean that there was not great news being announced though!

The presentation kicked off with somewhat of an expected announcement: more tera raid events for Scarlet and Violet. The three fully evolved forms of the generation one starters will be available in game to capture. The three fully evolved pokémon will have the “mightiest mark” just like the charizard event from the past. You can only catch one of each, but you can continue the raids to get rewards an infinite number of times so long as the event is active. The raid schedule is as follows:

A Mighty Venusaur

Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 7 P.M. EST until Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 6:59 P.M.

A Mighty Blastoise

Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 7 P.M. EST until Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 6:59 P.M.

A Mighty Charizard

Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 7 P.M. EST until Tuesday, March 17, 2024 at 6:59 P.M.

If you have previously captured the mighty charizard, you will not be able to grab another during this event, but that does not mean you can not help your friends and new players who are facing the raids for the first time!

Esports program coming to McDowell County

Pokémon Go was announced to be getting a crossover event with Pokémon Horizons. Pikachu wearing a captain’s hat will make its way into the game. This special pikachu will also know the move volt tackle which has not been in the game up until now. Pikachu will have to share that spotlight, however, because some other fan favorite pokémon will be making their way onto the scene as well! Ceruledge, Charcadet, and Armarouge will all be making their debuts. Liko and Roy, two of the new main characters for the Pokémon anime series, will arrive in snapshots in the game as well. The event runs from Tuesday, March 5, 2024, until Monday, March 11, 2024.

One of the most exciting announcements for those of us who enjoy sleeping was the Pokémon Sleep inclusions! The presentation offered us an electrical new spawn for the mobile game – the legendary pokémon Raikou who will be making an appearance in March of 2024.

Entei and Suicune were promised to follow. Those who use Pokémon Sleep can also get 10 Poke Biscuits and 1,000 diamonds just by logging in too. This distribution lasts until April 30, 2024.

Another app announcement was for Pokémon Masters EX. A fan favorite rival will be available as part of the game’s 4.5 year celebration – Silver and a shiny tyranitar! Champion Geeta will also be appearing with her glimmora! Geeta will be available starting February 28, 2024 and Silver will be available on March 1, 2024. As of the Pokémon Presents, sygna suit Gladion was appearing with Magearna. Riley also is available to join teams with his signature lucario.

The presentation also released information about a photo creator coming to the game so that fans can capture their favorite moments.

Pokémon Masters EX also has a promotion to celebrate Pokémon Day with those who log in receiving 3,000 gems for free.

Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase shows off new titles coming to the Switch in 2024

Pokémon Cafe Remix announced an event involving the collection of gimmighoul coins. The event has the player solving puzzles to collect the coins. Players can also add a sprigatito, fuecoco, or quaxly in special outfits to their staff. The event for the three starters runs until March 14, 2024. The legendary pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon can also join the staff. The Koraidon event runs until March 14, 2024 and the Miraidon event starts the day Koraidon’s ends and ends on April 1, 2024.

In Pokémon Unite news, Miraidon is jetting onto the scene as a playable pokémon. Ceruledge is also entering the fray as a virtually guaranteed fan favorite to play. Though, in a move that almost certainly no one saw coming, Falinks will also be playable. Miraidon will be available as of the Pokémon Presents, Falinks will be coming in April, and Ceruledge does not have a date just yet.

Miraidon’s unite license will be part of a special event that ends on March 23, 2024.

There are also some special Pokémon Unite promotional events and codes. The prize machine event will allow you to try your hand at winning some holowear. You can use the prize machine up to 100 times at no cost. This event ends April 5, 2024.

There is also a promotional code for a 3-day license for Miraidon if you would like to test it out first as well as a platinum Miraidon boost emblem. The code is “POKEDAY24.” Gift codes must be redeemed before March 31, 2024.

Perhaps one of the biggest announcements was the app game version of the trading card game (TCG) that was announced. Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket allows players to collect cards, trade with friends, battle, and even more deeply explore the sometimes stunning artwork on the cards – all in a digital format! Players will get two booster packs every day at no cost. No specific date was announced for the game’s release, but it was promised within 2024.

The final announcement is always the biggest during these presentations, however, and that was no different during this Pokémon Presents. Fans have been speculating for months about what would be announced, some wanting remakes of generation five, some wanting Let’s Go Johto games, and even others wanting a new game entirely.

There was one specific group that got their wish fulfilled though – all the fans wanting a new Pokémon Legends game. Pokémon Legends Z-A was announced at the tail end of the Pokémon Presents, giving a sketched out look at what looked to be a very alive and immersive Lumiose City. Pokémon dove through the water, flew through the air, and ran through the streets in the short promotional video provided. Not much is known about the title as of now, but fans are ravenously waiting for the return of mega evolutions as teased at the every end of the showcase with the iconic mega evolution symbol.

The game mentioned an “urban development plan” for the city which could allude to the game taking place prior to the events of Pokémon X and Y. Some speculate that perhaps this Legends game will take place just after the war explored in the past of X and Y and that the urban development plan will consist of rebuilding after the fallout. That is not confirmed, however.

Gamers will be waiting a little longer than usual for this title too. Pokémon Legends Z-A doesn’t hit shelves this November. Instead, the trailer announced a global release in 2025.
