'Pokémon Scarlet and Violet' gym leaders reimagined in pixel art goes viral

A Japanese artist has gone viral for creating a GIF that features several “Pokémon Scarlet” and “Pokémon Violet” gym leaders using pixel art.

On Feb. 28, Twitter user @Roncally_Hayate shared their unique bitmap versions of characters Larry, Grusha, Ryme, Tulip, Brassius, Katy, Kofu and Iono. Each gym leader notably has their own special animation.

The artist was inspired by the character designs of "Pokémon Black and White," the last "Pokémon" game to be bitmapped, according to SoraNews24.

Several Twitter users have commented on @Roncally_Hayate’s tweet, which has garnered over 3.1 million views and 90,200 likes.

“Each character is full of personality, even something as simple as Larry's is breathtaking! Wonderful work, earned a follow!” one user wrote.

“I miss the og pixel art so much it's not even funny. This is wonderful, excellent work!” another user said.

“These look far better than the 3d models do Love them!” another user declared.

Pokémon Scarlet” and “Pokémon Violet” were first released in November 2022.

In the games, players can explore the Paldea region and experience an open-world multiplayer function.

They also meet several characters, including new professors, new rivals and two new legendary Pokémon.
