Pokrovsk residents survey damage caused by shelling

STORY: Workers wearing helmets and flak jackets dug through a large crater in the town, inspecting metal fragments.

One resident said he had been sleeping when explosions hit the Ukrainian-held town. Another who gave his name as Viktor said: "Everything collapsed. Everyone was in the garden so there are no casualties. An older lady got hit with glass shard, otherwise the whole street seems alive."

The mayor of Pokrovsk, Ruslan Trebushkin, said on Wednesday the town had come under shelling in which residential buildings were damaged with no casualties reported.

He urged local residents to leave the town.
