Poland agrees to joint transfer of MiG-29 jets to Ukraine, says Slovak defense minister

He said his Polish colleague confirmed the transfer during an EU defense ministers meeting in Sweden on March 8.

“I think it’s time to make a decision,” Nad said.

“People are dying in Ukraine; we can really help them. There is no place for Slovak politicization. This is inhuman and irresponsible.”

Polish President Andrzej Duda confirmed his country was ready to hand over all its Soviet-era MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine in an interview with U.S. television news channel CNN on March 8.

Duda had earlier commented that Ukrainian forces would need fighter jets to repel threats from Russia. He said the transfer of the MiGs would help Ukraine’s air force move toward parity with Moscow.

Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger said on Feb. 10 that Slovakia is ready to discuss providing its own MiGs, following Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy’s request.
