Police: 1 hurt, 1 in custody after Niles shooting

NILES, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say one person is in custody after a Wednesday morning shooting in Niles that left one man injured.

It happened around 10:10 a.m. in a driveway on the 1200 block of South 11th Street, according to the Niles Police Department.

Initially, officers were sent to the Little Caesars Pizza on South 11th Street for a complaint of malicious destruction of property that involved two employees who were having an argument.

Just moments later, police say, dispatchers received a 911 call that someone had been shot and was in the Dollar Tree store on South 11th Street.

Officers found the victim, a 34-year-old Niles man, at the Dollar Tree. Police say he was treated on scene and was then taken to the hospital. He has since been released.

The suspect was found at Little Caesars, just a few hundred feet away from the Dollar Tree, and taken into custody, according to the Niles Police Department. The suspect’s name was not released Wednesday.

After investigating, police determined the shooting happened in a business entrance on South 11th Street.
