Police: 17-year-old also injured in weekend Sauk Village shooting

Sauk Village police said Tuesday a 17-year-old Lynwood boy was also injured in a Saturday afternoon shooting that took the life of 16-year-old Victor Nunez, also of Lynwood.

Sauk Village detectives and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force said the investigation is “active and open,” but did not provide more information.

At 1:26 p.m. Saturday, Sauk Village police responded to a call of two gunshot victims inside a vehicle in the 2500 block of 222nd Place, according to a department news release.

Nunez was taken to Saint Margaret’s Hospital in Dyer, Indiana, and then air lifted to the University of Chicago Medical Center before he died of his injuries, police said.

Nunez, of the 800 block of Victoria Circle in Lynwood, was pronounced dead at 7:25 p.m. An autopsy found he was shot in the head and his death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The 17-year-old boy was taken to Franciscan Health in Munster, Indiana, where he received medical treatment and was released, police said.
