Police say 18-year-old man killed in two-vehicle crash in Tuscaloosa

Tuscaloosa police are investigating a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon that killed an 18-year-old Tuscaloosa man near 15th Street.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokeswoman with the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said the fatal crash occurred after the 18-year-old's Pontiac sedan was involved in a collision with a Ford F-250. Taylor said the Pontiac sedan was headed north from Second Avenue into the eastbound lanes of 15th Street.

The driver of the truck had minor injuries, while the 18-year-old was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. On Wednesday, TPD identified the driver of the Pontiac sedan as Cianciolo Daniel Mauricico.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information was made available.

Taylor said the renaming of the Accident Reconstruction Unit took effect Tuesday. The Traffic Homicide Unit will investigate all serious traffic crashes and fatalities, criminal and non-criminal.
