Police: 2 dead, 1 injured in NN ‘domestic-related’ shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Two men are dead and another man has been injured following what appears to be a domestic-related shooting on 16th Street in Newport News Wednesday evening, police said.

A news conference took place on April 18 expanding on the events. Watch the full conference above.

Around 7:24 p.m., Newport News Police were sent to the 700 block of 16th Street in reference to a shooting, and when officers arrived a minute later, they found three men inside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

Police chief confirmed that everything took place inside the house and was in a pretty quiet neighborhood.

One man, 54-year-old Tracey Williams, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, while a second man, 25-year-old Dalontae Taylor, was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.

The incident occurred after an argument relating to a family matter, police said. Police chief said that Williams shot Taylor and Taylor responded in self-defense by returning fire. Evidence thus far showed that Williams was the aggressor, police said.

Williams was in a relationship with Taylor’s mother, who was also in the house, police said.

A third victim was also taken to a local hospital, and he is being treated for non life-threatening injuries, police said. The third victim was not involved in the shooting, police said.

Police said they are not looking for suspects.
