Police say 4-year-old Linden boy critical after being struck by car while riding bike

LINDEN – A 4-year-old city boy was seriously injured Thursday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle near Roselle Street and East St. Georges Avenue, police said.

The boy was taken to University Hospital in Newark where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

The crash temporarily closed East St. Georges Avenue northbound between Roselle and Bower streets, police said.

Police said they responded around 7:25 a.m., where a preliminary investigation indicates a 32-year-old city man and his 4-year-old son were riding a bicycle on Roselle Street across East St. Georges Avenue toward Chestnut Street, when they were struck by a vehicle as it turned left onto East St. Georges Avenue.

The boy's father suffered minor injuries, police said.

The driver was not injured in the crash and is cooperating in the investigation, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Linden Police Traffic Bureau. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact investigator Mieszko Niedziolka at 908-474-8505.
