Police: 44-year-old man charged with using slingshot to hit car with ball bearing in South Windsor

A 44-year-old man is charged with reckless endangerment after he allegedly shot a ball bearing from a slingshot into a vehicle in South Windsor Thursday morning, police said.

The man reportedly told the South Windsor Police Department he was traveling on Route 5 near Governor’s Highway when a stopped vehicle, later determined to be driven by Matthew J. West of Enfield, allegedly shot a ball bearing from a slingshot into his car.

Officers got a description of the vehicle and learned that the East Windsor Police Department was investigating a breach of peace incident at a Walmart on Prospect Hill Road involving West and his car, police said.

South Windsor police went to the scene at Walmart and allegedly located the slingshot and ball bearings that matched the hole size found in the victim’s window.

West was taken into custody and charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and second-degree reckless endangerment, police said.

He was released on a $500 surety bond. He is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on March 8.
