The Columbia Police Department arrested a Columbia man Tuesday for allegedly murdering a Cuba, Missouri, woman in her car Monday.

CPD responded to the 2700 block of Blue Ridge Road for a death investigation on Nov. 14, after an individual came across a car in the area and believed the driver was dead.

Upon arrival on the scene, Police determined the driver was dead due to an apparent gunshot wound.

CPD identified the driver as April Joann Brooks, 42 and a Cuba native. Her next of kin have been notified, police said.

After an investigation, police arrested Montez Lee Williams, 31 of Columbia. He was taken into custody for first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, child endangerment and resisting arrest.

This is the second murder in Columbia since the beginning of November.

On Nov. 6, a Columbia man was arrested on two counts of second-degree murder stemming from a Nov. 5 incident that left two women dead.

In the release announcing the arrest Tuesday, CPD noted many of the recent homicides the department has investigated have included some aspects of domestic violence.
