Police arrest man in shooting death of Darius Mitchell, 43

Montgomery police made arrests in 69% of homicide cases in 2023, Police Chief Darryl Albert said.

Officers arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the death of Darius Mitchell, 43, who was killed on March 16, Montgomery police said.

Police on Friday arrested Laddavious Howard of Montgomery in Mitchell's shooting death, police said in a news release. Howard was in the Montgomery jail Friday afternoon without a bond.

First responders arrived at the 5900 block of Welbourne Place, a residential street in southeast Montgomery, at about 8 p.m. on March 16. They found Mitchell with a fatal gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are not releasing any more information at this time, according to the press release.
