Police arrest Springfield man in possession of large cache of drugs at Skinner Butte

Eugene Police arrested a Springfield man early Wednesday morning at Skinner Butte who allegedly fled on foot during a traffic stop and was reportedly found to be in possession of a large amount of drugs.

Raymond Martin Kennedy, 37, was taken to Lane County Jail and was arraigned Thursday for charges including unlawful possession of a control substance, unlawful possession of heroin and methamphetamine, fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.

Kennedy was found in possession of more than 10 grams of methamphetamine, more than 5 grams of heroin, more than 200 fentanyl pills, and more than 20 grams of fentanyl powder and digital scales, according to a Eugene Police news release.

According to Eugene Police, an officer spotted Kennedy driving and attempted to perform a traffic stop near West Seventh Avenue and Tyinn Street, but Kennedy fled, police said. Police say Kennedy was known to be driving with a suspended license and had previously fired a gun during an arrest.

Police brought in two K-9s who tracked Kennedy to the area of east Fifth Avenue and Oak Street.

Police say Kennedy fled in the direction of Skinner Butte, where he was later found hiding in a bush and arrested with assistance from a Springfield Police K-9 unit.

Kennedy is scheduled to next appear in court on Dec. 15.
