On Tuesday, officers were called to the intersection of West 71st Street and Georgetown Road on a report of a person shot around 7:30 p.m. Police said officers found Thomas, 31, with gunshot wounds and administered first aid until medics arrived and took him to the hospital.

Thomas later died. The Marion County Coroner’s Office later said he died from a gunshot wound and ruled the death a homicide.

Detectives determined the incident started outside a gas station at the intersection.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine a final charging decision.
