MUNCIE, Ind. — A Delaware County man has been accused of battering and threatening to kill his 91-year-old mother.
Bryan David Eberle, 63, of Gaston, was released from the Delaware County jail after posting a $17,500 bond. He was preliminarily charged with criminal confinement, domestic battery of an endangered adult, interference with the reporting of a crime and intimidation with a deadly weapon.
Indiana State Police late Saturday were sent to a home in Gaston, where a 91-year-old woman reported her son — Eberle — had "grabbed her nose, and twisted it," and then struck her forehead with his own forehead.
The woman also said Eberle had grabbed her right arm, which continued to hurt, and broke her house phone when she tried to call for help, and also took her cellphone.
She also said her chest was sore as a result of Eberle pushing her when she tried to leave their home's kitchen.
During the incident, the woman said, her son at one point put his hand on a gun in his possession and threatened to shoot her.
A state trooper reported the accuser's nose was "bruised with discoloration showing bluish purple."
She also reportedly had "discoloration" on her forehead and a bruised right forearm.
Emergency medical personnel came to the scene and examined the senior citizen. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
Eberle was at first believed to be in a detached garage on the property but investigators determined his vehicle was gone.
He was apprehended a short time later in a traffic stop near Main and Maple streets in Gaston. A loaded revolver was found "on his right hip," according to an affidavit.
Court records reflect no prior felony charges or convictions for the Gaston man.
