Police: Driver of a third vehicle caused fatal head-on crash in Eagle Township

EAGLE TWP. — A Mulliken man was killed Thursday afternoon in a head-on crash involving three vehicles, police said.

Livingston Thompson, 43, was driving east on West State Road, approaching South Grange Road, about 2:30 p.m. when he swerved to avoid a driver who was turning in front of him, the Clinton County Sheriff's Office said.

Thompson's vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a westbound vehicle driven by a 17-year-old girl from the Lansing area, officials said. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. The girl refused medical treatment but was taken to a hospital by her mother, Undersheriff Mike Gute said.

Investigators believe the crash was caused by the driver who turned in front of Thompson, a 76-year-old Eagle man, Gute said. That driver was arrested for an alcohol violation following the crash, the undersheriff said.

The crash remains under investigation, he said.
