Cops shoot, arrest suspected gunman in Brooklyn

Police on Thursday night shot and arrested a man suspected of shooting two people in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD.

The suspect allegedly shot two males at Kosciuszko St. and Broadway in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 9:32 p.m., Chief of Patrol Jeffrey Maddrey said at a press conference.

Responding officers found the suspect and engaged him in a foot pursuit, Maddrey continued.

One of the officers — a member of the NYPD’s Intelligence Unit who had been patrolling in the area — fired two rounds and hit the suspect in the right leg after seeing him “grab his waist (and) turn towards them,” said the chief.

The suspect tried to enter an apartment on Patchen Ave. near Van Buren St., but “the officers were able to apprehended him before he got inside,” Maddrey said.

The suspect was arrested, and two men inside the apartment were brought to the 81st Precinct stationhouse as part of the investigation.

The Kosciuszko St. victims were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Maddrey said.

The suspect’s weapon was yet to be recovered as of Thursday night, he added.

The Intelligence Unit includes officers assigned to the mayor’s detail, but the officer who shot the suspect was part of its operations unit, according to the chief.
