Police: Hartford woman dies from injuries in June 19 shooting

A woman who was one of four people shot on Franklin Street on June 19 died Friday, police said.

In the June 19 incident, police went to the 100 block of Franklin Avenue just after 9 p.m. on a report of a shooting and officers found three unresponsive victims, all suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, police said. A male and female were pronounced deceased on scene.

The third victim, a female in her twenties, was taken to an area hospital, where she underwent surgery and was initially listed in critical condition, police said.

The female victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased just before 5 p.m. Friday, police said.

She was identified as Nikia Rankins, 27, of Franklin Avenue, Hartford, police said.

The two people who died June 19 were identified as Christina Dang, 27, and Chase Eugene Garrett, 39,. They were killed when shots were fired just outside the apartment Dang and Garrett shared with their young son on the second floor of a multifamily home on Franklin Avenue in Hartford, police said.

A few days after the shooting, Donovan McFarlane, 31, showed up at the Hartford Police Department to speak with detectives and said he was suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound that occurred during the June 19 incident. He was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
