Police honor their fallen in memorial ceremony

Wichita Falls police, families of the fallen, city and county officials honored the officers that sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the police department’s annual Memorial Service held outside of the police station Monday morning.

A bell was tolled in memory of each Wichita Falls officer that has fallen in the line of duty. A bugle played Taps followed by Amazing Grace.

A wreath was place at the foot of the Wichita Falls Police Memorial in front of police headquarters. WFPD Chief of Police Manuel Borrego, Deputy Chief Scott Vaughn and Mayor Stephen Santellana spoke during the event honoring local and national fallen officers.

According to a release, 617 officers were killed in the United States in 2021.
