Police hunt for wedding crasher who stole gifts from newlyweds

Police in the US are searching for a serial wedding crasher accused of showing up to wedding parties uninvited and stealing gifts.

Detectives believe the female suspect has turned up pretending to be a guest at at least three weddings in the San Antonio area of Texas since December, before making off with gifts worth thousands of dollars.

They have released CCTV pictures of the woman they say they are looking for in connection with the thefts.

A $4,000 (£3,600) reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest, a post on the Comal County Crime Stoppers Facebook page said.

"Let's not let her ruin anyone else's special day and bring this crasher to justice," it added.

A Comal County detective told KENS the amount she has taken is unknown.

"It seems our suspect has found a lucrative way to make a living and has been clever in a way she executes in the way she stole," the detective said.

One couple, Brittany and Andy Flores, only found out thousands of dollars worth of their wedding gifts had been stolen when they were on their honeymoon, the couple told NBC5.

As they arrived in the Mexican resort of Cancun for their nuptials earlier this month, Mrs Flores' mother called asking if either of them had taken all the cards from the gift table.

"And we were like, 'No, what are you talking about?'" Mrs Flores said.

"I think when we first found out, it was kind of a devastating, sinking feeling that this had happened.

"And then when we found out it had happened to other people too, we were like: 'Wow. This needs to stop.'"

The newlyweds said they recognised the woman, and believe she stole hundreds of dollars in cash and several thousand dollars more in cheques and gift cards.

But, they said they are determined not to let the culprit "take away from our day".

Mrs Flores added: "She can't steal our love."
